Using the app

How it works

Everything below is written for someone standing in a paddock with a phone. If you only read one section, read the first one.

Quoting a job

Three screens from an empty quote to a price.

Pricing is not one of the steps any more. New quotes already use your saved prices, so you get a number without stopping to set anything up. If you do need to change a price for one job, Adjust pricing sits in the footer of the quote screen.

Fence types

A fence is whatever you tick. Open Fence Type on the quote screen and you get six boxes: plain wire, barbed wire, electric wire, hinged joint, netting and exclusion mesh. Tick one and it opens up so you can choose the product and how many strands.

You can only have one mesh on a run, because you would not build it any other way. If you need hinged joint along one boundary and netting along another, add a second fence type instead.

Wire you do not have set up yet

Tap New wire type under any wire, put in the description, roll length and price, and it prices on the spot. Leave the save box ticked and it joins your pricing for next time. Untick it if it was a one-off for that job.

The map

Satellite view, so you are working off what is actually there rather than a guess. Search the address to jump to the property.

• Line the crosshair up and tap Place pin. Drag a pin if you put it in the wrong spot.
• Connect fence-line joins pins into runs and shows the distance on each leg.
• Tap a pin to add strainers, gates, stays or restrains at that point.
• Undo, Remove fence-lines and Clear all are in the top corner.

Fence lines save with the quote, so reopening a job puts you back on the same property with the line still drawn.

Your pricing

There is one set of prices, under Pricing on the home screen. Wire, posts, strainers, stays, gates, rail panels, travel and labour rates all live there. Set it up once and every new quote uses it.

Here is the part worth understanding. A quote keeps the prices it was made with. Put your prices up in March and the quote you sent in January still says what you sent. Nothing moves under a customer after the fact.

That does mean an old quote can drift out of step with your current prices. When it has, the quote screen tells you, and you can see exactly which prices differ and by how much. Update to your pricing pulls the current ones across if you want them.

The quote screen

Everything itemised, with the total and a full cost breakdown updating as you change things. Star posts sit under the fence type, since spacing and height depend on the fence.

A few things worth knowing are tucked away here:

• Underground services search adds a locate to the job. Set your standard price once in Pricing and tick it on the quotes that need it.
• Additional items is for anything the app does not cover. Description and price, added straight to the total.
• Adjust pricing changes prices for that quote only and leaves your saved pricing alone.

Saved quotes

Saved jobs are under Saved Quotes. Reopen one, rename it, or copy it to start a new quote from an old one. A copy brings the fence line with it, so a similar job on the next property is mostly done already.

Sharing and PDFs

Send a link

Tap Share for a link that opens in any browser. Your customer does not need the app or an account.

Export a PDF

A branded PDF with your details, the materials list and the cost breakdown. Sending materials only? Untick the total and cost breakdown before you export.

Sending to Xero

Connect Xero once under Settings. After that, Send to Xero creates a draft quote there for you to check and send. Put the customer's name on the quote and the app matches it to your Xero contacts, or makes a new one if there is no match.

It always creates a draft. Nothing goes to a customer without you looking at it first.

Your account

The app is free to use. There is no trial to run out and nothing locked behind a subscription.

You do need an account, because your quotes and fence lines sync to it. Sign in on your phone at the property and the same jobs are on the computer back at the shed.

Common questions

If I change my prices, do my old quotes change too?

No. Each quote keeps the prices it was built with. Updating your pricing only affects quotes you make from that point on.

Can I have two different fence types on one quote?

Yes, up to five. Use Add another fence type on the Fence Type card. Each one gets its own length and star posts, and the material costs are listed separately in the breakdown.

Can my customer open a shared quote without the app?

Yes. A share link opens in any browser, no app and no account needed.

Does it work without phone signal?

Partly. The satellite map needs a connection to load the imagery, and quotes sync when you have one. Load the property while you have signal and you can keep working as you walk the line.

Is there an iPhone app?

One is on the way. For now it runs in any browser on a phone, tablet or computer. On an iPhone you can add it to your home screen from the share menu in Safari and it opens like an app.
